About Ian Roberts

Brockville Native with deep family roots in the community


Graduate of Thousand Islands Secondary School, St. Lawrence College in Business Administration-Finance and a Combined BA from Carleton University in Political Science and Mass Communications


Private sector experience includes working as gas dock manager at St. Lawrence Marina in Brockville and 5 years as a branch auditor for a chartered bank in Ottawa



Assistant in the office of MPP Bob Runciman during his time as Minister of Government Services and Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations


Retired from Canada Revenue Agency after 30 years service, starting out as an investigator in Collections with the bulk of the last 5 years as head of cyber security


Currently a member of the Board of Commissioners of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission







Ian on Policy

  

Fiscal Responsibility

  • No tax increases, but if absolutely necessary, at or below rate of inflation
  • Reinstate annual financial audits
  • Fight to re-establish city council's finance committee to insure greater council/citizen involvement in budget development
  • No tax money to private businesses, on pet projects or spent outside of the city

 Council Accountability

  • Return to ward system making councillors more recognizable and more accountable

Revitalization

  • Establish a citizen committee to determine best way forward for former Woolworth’s property
  • Nix remaining red tape so that work at the Brockville Shopping Centre site can start

Law and Order

  • More visible police presence at special events and in hot spots as determined by the Chief of Police

Tourism

  • Seek private investment into innovative tourism options
  • More seasonal dining options along the waterfront
